The body of a paddleboarder who vanished in a Martha's Vineyard pond close to former President Barack Obama's house has been found by authorities. On Monday morning, police in Edgartown, Massachusetts, said that the hunt for a 43-year-old unidentified African American man had been suspended after he submerged himself while paddle boarding at the community's Great Pond.

Around 7.40 p.m. on Sunday, the issue was first reported to first responders. The pond, which is close to a 30-acre oceanfront Turkeyland Cove residence the Obamas purchased in 2019, was searched by a number of local organizations as well as the US Coast Guard. Authorities were informed by another paddleboarder who was present when the incident occurred that he witnessed the man battle to stay on the surface before submerging. Later on that day, the victim's paddle board and cap were discovered.

The man's remains were recovered from the pond on Monday at 10 a.m. after being located by the Massachusetts Environmental Police using sonar technology.

The retrieval was made around 100 feet off the beach at a depth of eight feet, according to a statement from a Massachusetts State Police spokesperson. The State Police Detective Unit for the Cape and Islands District and Edgartown Police are conducting the investigation into the fatality. MSP had halted rescue operations just hours before word spread that a body had been removed from the area.

"Efforts to find the missing paddle boarder were fruitless after several hours of searching last night, and the operation was suspended to allow diving teams, flight crews, and other responders to re-equip and determine the best course of action. At this time, search assets are starting to resume their operations, according to a previous statement.

The 890-acre pond is frequently utilized for fishing, boating, and recreational swimming. A MSP representative declined to confirm or deny whether the deceased guy had any connection to the Obamas' house. Also unknown is if Mr. Obama is now residing at the house.
